Hypafix tape is a strong durable tape that is used for securing dressings, drains and catheters. It is made of polyester material that is permeable and allows the skin to breathe. This means that moisture and air can escape and the wound area will remain dry. It is a self adhesive tape specially formulated for sensitive skin.

There are a number of uses for hypafix tape. A common one is holding drains and catheters securely. Because it is a flexible material it can be placed on awkward spots that are usually difficult to secure. It is also good for keeping dressings in place especially those around the joints. Hypafix tape allows the joints to stay mobile due to its flexibility. This allows the patient to be mobile and not let the dressing move around. This eliminates friction and promotes healing. The patient is also more comfortable.

Because Hypafix tape is hypoallergenic, it is ideal for patients with sensitive skin who can often have reactions to regular adhesives. It is also latex free which makes it more compatible with the patient’s skin. It is made of permeable material to allow the skin to breathe and prevent moisture from accumulating. The wound is kept dry and aerated so that it heals faster. There is also less risk of infection.

Hypafix tape can be used as a covering for a primary dressing. This will seal the wound but at the same time allow moisture to evaporate.
